Were there any people who were known to foster ideas that were contrary to the Bible or RCC doctrine but were not persecuted?
The reason that I ask is that perhaps some of the Catholic church's secrets can be deduced through who the Catholic church did and did not persecute.
The Catholic church's persecution of heliocentricism and other transgressions are rather well-known, but were there ideas at the time of the Inquisition that equally ran contrary to the Bible or RCC doctrine, but the Catholic church did not persecute?
Persecuted:
1) Heliocentricty (Capernicus, Galileo, Bruno, others?)
2) Denial of Pope's absolute temporal & spiritual power and infallibility
3) Opposition to Confession
Not Persecuted:
1) "Actual grace" dogma
My background is not in theology. Anybody care to add to these lists?
